드 루박의 [중세 해석학]은 아내가 준 졸업 선물이다. 스맬리의 The Study of the Bible in the Middle Ages와 더불어 반드시 읽어야 할 중세의 성경 해석학 독본이다. 중세의 해석학을 모르면 종교개혁 해석학은 개혁이 가해진 일부를 마치 전부인 것처럼 간주하는 일반화의 오류에서 자유롭지 못하게 된다. 종교개혁 인물들이 읽고 쓰고 연구했던 교실의 중세적 배경은 생략한 채 그들의 시대적 과제를 푸는 해법으로 제시된 개혁의 내용만을 취한다면 고대와 중세를 비롯한 교회사 전체를 관통하는 진리의 도도한 줄기는 중세의 종교적 부패와 더불어 폐기되는 비운을 맞이하게 된다. 종교개혁 해석학의 종합적인 파악은 중세와의 연관성 속에서 온전한 이해에 도달한다. 루박의 [중세 해석학] 4권 영역본은 아직 출간되지 않았다.
